Hello fellow penny pinchers,
I'll start off by saying coupons are ESSENTIAL! You can print them, buy them, get them out of the paper, recycle dive (yes I've done it) anything...just start clipping! You will save hundreds if not thousands of dollars on groceries, household goods, clothing etc.
This blog will contain deals from local grocery stores, department stores, even online deals. I either find them myself or with your help as you send me deals you find.

Shopping Ahead

I have heard people ask me or the Mr. if shopping a year ahead was actually worth it.

"Aren't you spending more up front?" is the most common question.
My answer to that question is "YES." Yes you are in fact handing over a larger sum over at once.

HOWEVER...
By larger I do NOT mean larger than you would normally spend in a year. By larger I mean that if you went during the season and bought things sporadically for $10 here or $12 there, you are spending less in one setting but SOOOO much more in the long run.

In the last week I have spent $125 (this is NOT including tax) (Kohls, Childrens Place, JC Penney, Target) during mega clearances for my 3 kids winter clothes next year. That is $41.66 per child. I saved $426...that's $142 savings per child. That basically means if I had shopped DURING the season I would have spent average range of $100-140 PER child. Of course the older and more kids...that amount might go up or average out as the younger ones can get the "hand me downs."

To me its mind boggling to think that people actually buy their kids clothes DURING the season they are in.

PLAN & SHOP AHEAD.

I have three kiddos so I am well aware that they grow, and they grow fast! In spite of that, you can pretty much "guesstimate" what size your kids will be in come next winter/spring etc.

If you have average growing children then you pretty much know what size they will fit into next year. BUT if you have children who grow randomly then you might find yourself a little more apprehensive about stocking up clothes a year in advance. Still plan and buy ahead.

*You can never go wrong with shoes. I have never heard of a kid skipping a size or two in shoes. So when you find them on a good sale buy a size or two ahead and save them. If you watch sales and plan ahead you can find good quality shoes for your price range. Example: Last year Kohls had a clearance sale combined with a Spend 50 Get $10 Kohls cash. Shopping ahead I spent enough for get my $10 Kohls cash. Knowing my daughter would be needing shoes I was able to take that $10, go back a week later and find New Balance shoes for $15.00. With my cash it made it $5.00. Find shoes for cheap, buy big, have shoes for later!

*Buy jackets after the season - jackets run large normally. Chances are your kids will fit into the size you guess. Being as jackets can range from $25-100. Finding them just 50% off can save you a ton. Same goes for most winter wear...hats, gloves, etc.

*After the summer stock up on short sleeved shirts in a couple different sizes. You can wear short sleeved shirts year round. If its cold...put on a jacket. But at least if your kid is growing faster than anticipated you can pull out those short sleeved shirts even before summer.

*Socks & underwear...normally you don't think of buying those things ahead of time. Next time you're at, say, Target (they are known for this) look through their socks and underwear. There's a big chance you will find some on sale. Buy bigger sizes...your kiddos will eventually fit into them. That can save you $3-5 per package.

*Buy seasonal items after the season! Who doesn't love decorations for the holidays? Well be patient, wait until the season is over, and buy those decorations for 80-90% off. Yes you have to wait until next year...but when you buy a wreath that was normally $60 for $6...its worth it.

*Seasonal things also go for items like Barbecues, gardening, snow shovels etc. Buying after the season, you can save hundreds!

*Baby stuff - when you see a baby clearance run on over and check it out. You can always find stuff for a few dollars or less. Save it for an upcoming baby shower.

*TOYS: this is a big one. Plan ahead for toys. There is always a birthday party to plan or attend. Finding toys for 75% off and putting them away can save you lots of money. Same goes for video gaming.

Be organized, plan ahead, wait for clearance prices to reach 70-90% off and SAVE! Try this for a month, figure out how much you saved off the original price and there's no way you'll go back.

Kohls

Kohls is having their "Gold Star" winter clearance event. I went to check it out and make sure it was worth posting about and I would say it is.

The baby & toddler section is almost ENTIRELY on sale. Mostly 60-70% off but two racks of 80% 0ff. Full baby outfits 0-12 mo. for $2.80. Baby girl & boy shoes for $3. I found some jeans for my daughter for $5. Shirts for $3. A Christmas outfit for the baby for $6. I don't have any big girls but I did see there were quite a few racks. Big boys was the skimpiest however they have a heap of "Jumping Beans" shirts for $2.80. That means you can buy a whole weeks worth of shirts for $20.00.

Also they had just a ton of toys for 60% off.
I didn't check the adults but as I walked by I did see their clearance signs as well.

ALSO if you spend $50 you get $10 Kohls cash that you can spend next week!

Happy Shopping!

Sunday Newspaper

Coupons are essential, crucial...mandatory even...that is of course if you want free or nearly free items.
So as I realized that my subscription is over this month, I went searching for the Safeway newspaper man. I like him. He makes my 6 month subsription $26.00 (if you call the Republic they are far more.) Thats $4.33 a month. Which is $1.08 every Sunday (only buy the Sunday subscription.) Half the price as buying it directly from the store. I like him so much I buy 2 from him (stock pile...stock pile...stock pile.) He also gives me two hats, an umbrella and two $5 Safeway cards.

Anyway...my Prescott Valley friends...go searching for him. He will hook you up!

Bargain Mart

I know I mentioned this store briefly a few posts before but I dont feel like I did it justice. I wanted to talk a little more about this Bargain Mart Dicscount Grocery off of Florentine and Navajo.

This store is super awesome! They get groceries and household items from stores locally at reduced prices because the "best by" (not expired) date has passed, or they are "dinged" up.

They have everything you could need. 80% of the time the prices are amazing, sometimes with coupons I know I can get it cheaper at the grocery store.

Here are some examples:

They get bread from the bread delivery guy every Tuesday and re-sell it for $.95 a loaf. This is the good stuff people, not just generic. They have rolls, buns...everything for $.95.

Right now they are selling their Gerber Graduates & other baby foods for $.50 (or less) a piece. Gerber fruit snacks, fruit leather, dinners, baby cereal, baby food ($.30) and juice ($.25).

Today I got canned vegetables and Cream of Chicken soup for $.40 and less. I also got a 9 pack of kids Motts apple juice boxes for $.60. 8pk Organic strawberry cereal bars for toddler for $.50.

They have snacks, granola bars, pop tarts etc. for below what you can get them at regular stores.

Anyway its worth your time to check out!!

Winter Clothing Clearance

Our local JC Penney & Childrens Place at the mall are having some GREAT winter sales.

JC Penney had several racks for 75% off including Nike winter jackets for $20.00. Most of their clothing was between $2-5.
I spent $8.30 and saved $32.00

The Childrens Place is the jackpot. For big kids ALL their winter clothing was $3.99 a piece. Pants, sweaters, shirts, shoes, hats, mittens...all of it. $3.99
For the little ones it was all $2.99 a piece.
Their large winter jackets were $9.99. The only sizes they had were 24mo and below and 7/8 and above so I totally missed out on that one.
I spent $50.84 and saved $153.00.
They said this sale wont make it to this weekend and things were flying off the shelves. So get there soon and shop for next year.

Old Navy

Our local Old Navy is currently offering an additional 50% off their already clearance prices.
I went there today and stocked up next winters clothes for the kiddos (saving tip #2...shop a year ahead.)
The baby section was not worth it. The toddler girl & boy was okay (didn't find anything for 18-24mo but the girls section was okay.) Older boys section was GREAT! They had a ton of long sleeved shirts for about $3.50 a piece. Pull overs for the same price. They had nice church sweaters, some pants. The big girl section was worth checking but not as good as the boys. And of course the adult section is always stocked.
Happy Shopping!

SwagBucks

If you've noticed the side bar or bottom of my page you will have seen something called SwagBucks.

Curious?!

Well SwagBucks is an online search engine that pays you for searching.
Not in real money of course, but digital dollars which then can be redeemed for gift cards and other neat stuff.

For example I have 87 swag bucks. So far that gives me enough for a $10 gift card to Amazon. I've only done this for about 2 weeks.

Amazing?...I'd like to think so.

If you refer someone, you get 1 swag buck for every one they earn.

I will provide their link (HERE) and also some FAQ link (HERE). Check it out.
